How long does a CPA designation usually take?

In Canada, obtaining a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation typically takes several years but it varies for each student. The process generally involves completing a bachelor’s degree, followed by fulfilling specific educational requirements set by the CPA profession, gaining relevant work experience, and successfully completing the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).

The exact timeline can vary depending on factors such as whether you pursue a full-time or part-time program, your prior education, and the pace at which you complete the required exams and work experience. On average, it may take around 2 to 3 years to complete the CPA program after obtaining a bachelor’s degree, but this can vary from individual to individual.
